Student software offers: what they really require
Free for students sounds simple until the verification step. Here is what providers usually ask for, and where applications tend to stall.
"Free for students" is really "free once verified"
Almost every student offer runs through an eligibility check. The offer itself is genuinely free or discounted — the friction is proving you belong to it.
The three things you are usually asked for
First, a school-issued email address. A personal address will not pass, and a generic alumni address often will not either. Second, proof of current enrolment: a dated enrolment letter, a transcript, or a student ID photo showing a valid term. Third, patience — human review can take days on some programmes.
Where applications stall
Expired documents are the biggest cause. A student card that shows no expiry date, or shows a term that has ended, usually gets rejected. The second is a mismatch between the name on the document and the name on the account. The third is applying from a country the programme does not cover.
Renewals are not automatic
Most student plans are annual and require re-verification. Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you are approved; losing access mid-project is a worse outcome than never having the discount.
Before you apply
Read the eligibility line on the listing, check whether a card is required, and confirm what happens when the student term ends — some plans continue at full price unless you cancel.
